Hi All,
I am based out of Bangalore,India. I am interested in opening a fast food joint in Bangalore. But have no experience in this business. Looking for information's like investments, staff, how to manage etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I am a mgmt pro and wish to open a spanky small fast food joint (TO start with). Personally I have good knowledge of various Cuisine and hands on cooking experience. Also have a reasonable idea of how to go about running a joint like this.

However I can't decide whether to take a tie up with a leading coffee joint like Java city for example, or to open and run your own thing. (menu undecided and depends on target crowd). I have been doing some research over the last 4-5 months as of location, target customer, menu etc that will give maximum penetration and faster break-even. Is this forum still active? I also have harboured the idea of opening a restaurant in south b'lore, whether fine dining or fast food joint not yet sure. Need to know and learn if food and hospitality industry is as good as it seems... r there lot of difficult regulations and licensing involved or not? Dear Anju, i am a hotel professional (middle mgt with 10 yrs exp) with expertise in South East Asian cuisine, came across your query, have been researching the same for the past year,
hope the below helps -
F&B is a very lucrative business, bottomline anywhere between 15-25%, South Bangalore is an extremely good market in some spots, licenses are not easy to get unless you know the rules and regulations, Liquor permit near impossible unless you know someone who can sell it to you (cost 20-30 lakhs), high initial CAPEX but equally high ROI, you need Working Capital to last you atleast a year (if sales are sluggish) so calculate all the Fixed Costs and budget expenses for a year, staff attrition will be high hence training, retention, incentives should be top priority, you need to dedicate full time commitment otherwise it ll not work, a hell lot of other things but once you are up and running (BEP ie break even point 12-15 months) there s no stopping oneself.

I am on the look out too so hope you will visit my outlet when it opens...

Currently a veg restaurant is running from past 12 years and he would vacate on 31/05/2011. Property is next to bus stand and surrounded by 4 colleges/ schools. Now I am interested in setting up a new Restaurant in Bangalore and in search.

I want to ask your advise, this is the first time I am setting up a
business in India. So I have no idea about the market.

Is it good to buy a running restaurant or better open a NEW Restaurant.
What is your suggestion? My budget is 15-20 Lakhs INR and running
restaurants are available in the market. But no idea what will be the
profit. The current owners are saying is running well. But my calculation,
after all expenses from a 60 pax restaurant a minimum of Rs.4000/- per day
(from a business approximate Rs.20,000/- per day) I am expecting a net
profit. Is it available in Indian / bangalore market?

If I start a new restaurant, it may take few months time to get the market.
Or do you have any idea, from the very beginning how to attract the
customers ? Some good tips from your side will be highly appreciated.

Seems like you have your figures right. Rs 4000 margin on Rs 20,000 revenue is very possible.
My estimate is that a 20,000 revenue restaurant is not worth investing more than 8- 10 lakhs. You may have to keep some money for a) doing up the place your way after running it for a few months. b) to keep your business afloat as things always dont go a s planned.
PS. I am running a takeaway and am considering expanding looking for like minded hard working and investing souls. Investment range 2- 5 lakhs
